Hey there! It’s Dave from Goal Pediatric Orthotics, and I’m here with my awesome assistant, Polly. Today we’re diving into a topic that’s super important for many of our patients – resting hand splints!
Why Do We Need Resting Hand Splints?
Imagine having tight wrist and finger flexors all day and night. For many of our patients with neuromuscular conditions, this is a reality. Their wrists stay down, fingers stay flexed, and their thumbs are in tight. Not fun, right? This can lead to contractures and even the need for tendon surgeries. Yikes!
The Solution: The Allard Resting Hand Splint
So, what’s the magic solution? Meet our favorite resting hand splint – the Allard S.O.T.! It’s designed to give a nice stretch to those finger and wrist flexors, keeping the wrist up, fingers out, and thumb out too. This helps maintain good range of motion and avoid those pesky contractures.
Easy Peasy to Use
One of the best things about the Allard splint is how easy it is to use. Just take off the outside straps, slip the thumb right in, and then secure it with three straps over the top. One, two, three, and you’re good to go! Plus, it’s super comfortable.
Why We Love It
We absolutely love the Allard resting hand splint because it’s off-the-shelf and easy for anyone to use. It’s perfect for nighttime use but can be worn during the day too. It’s a game-changer for our patients, helping them stay comfortable and maintain their range of motion.
Thanks for tuning in! We hope this helps you understand why we’re such big fans of the Allard S.O.T. Stay tuned for more tips and tricks from Gold Pediatric Orthotics!
Bests,
Dave and Polly
