New and Improved Piro SMO's (best SMO's yet)!

Updated: Oct 12

Hey everyone!

We’ve got some exciting news to share about our Piro SMO's that we’ve been working hard on. These updates are all about making things better for our low tone, developmentally delayed pronator population.

Now although the Piro SMO's have largely been a great success, providing a more dynamic, flexible, and supportive alternative to traditional SMO's, we know there’s always room for improvement. Many of you have shared your experiences, and we’ve listened. One of the common issues has been with the Y strap and the Velcro dot—not exactly a home run. The dot has been coming off, causing all sorts of issues. That and the thick strap was also making things bulky and even sometimes creating a lateral post (opposite to what you would want for a pronator). But don’t worry, we’ve got some fantastic updates to share!

The New and Improved SMO Designs

For Our Smaller Kids:

We’ve made some significant changes. We’re moving to a one-strap design! But to make this work, we needed to thicken up the lateral border to prevent forefoot abduction. You might notice a little bulge, but that’s just extra thickness to ensure the foot stays in place without shifting out.

Plus, it’s still flexible right at the end where the pinky toe dorsiflexes, which is awesome. We’ve also made the instep more flexible to better curve with the anatomy, and we’ve introduced thinner straps on all new designs. To top it off, we’ve added a little picture of the foot at the bottom to help distinguish right from left—because, let’s face it, it can be confusing!

For Our Bigger Kids:

We’re going with 2 thin straps making some tweaks to enhance comfort and durability. The chafe is now pulled back behind the head of the fifth metatarsal to prevent any breakdown. So, you’ll see thinner straps and better curvature while maintaining all the other great properties you love. This is now the new standard with our Piro SMOs (and why we think its the best SMO's yet)!

Wrapping Up

We’re really excited about these updates and can’t wait for you to try them out. Thanks for all your feedback and support—it helps us make these improvements. Have a fantastic week, and we’ll see you next time!
