SOMETIMES WE FORGET ABOUT THE CORE
Hi everybody, and welcome back!
Today I’ve got my little assistant helping me talk about something we all know is important but sometimes forget—the core!
When we’re looking at kids from head to toe, especially in orthotics, we tend to focus on the feet, ankles, and knees. But sometimes what’s affecting all of that is actually coming from the belly!
Think about any athlete. Core stability is the foundation for controlled, coordinated movement. And the same goes for our kiddos.
A LITTLE EXTRA SUPPORT CAN CHANGE THE GAME
Our core plays a huge role in stability, balance, and how accurately we move. But for some kids, maintaining that stability while breathing, moving, and playing can be a real challenge.
That’s where compression TLSOs can be a great option.
A couple of my favorites are:
- Benik: A neoprene compression garment that provides a little more robust support.
- SPIO: Made with a lighter, more breathable Lycra material for a different level of compression and comfort.
Both are easy to put on and can provide additional trunk support and sensory input, depending on what that kiddo needs.
DON’T FORGET TO LOOK AT THE CORE!
If you’ve got a kiddo who just isn’t quite reaching the movement goals you’re working toward, it might be worth taking another look at their core stability.
Sometimes we’re so focused on the lower extremities that we overlook what’s happening up top.
Whether it’s a Benik, SPIO, or another compression garment, there are some great options out there to explore.
Give us a call if you have questions—we’re always happy to help!
Have a great day!
