HELPING ROUND OUT THOSE FLAT SPOTS
Hi everybody, and welcome back!
Today I’ve got a little help talking about shaping babies’ heads and what we look for when choosing a cranial remolding helmet.
Babies can develop flat spots for a variety of reasons—from a long hospital stay to simply not getting enough tummy time. Cranial remolding orthoses are designed to hold growth in certain areas while allowing more growth where the head is flat.
The tricky part? There are a lot of helmets out there.
SO, WHAT MAKES ONE HELMET DIFFERENT?
When it comes to correcting head shape, different helmet styles can get us to the same place. So for me, the question becomes: what makes the experience better for the baby and the parents?
After doing our research, we landed on the Tally helmet, and there are a few reasons I really like it:
- More breathable: Perforations run throughout the helmet and foam, which can help with all that sweating that comes with wearing a helmet 23 hours a day.
- Light and thin: It’s designed to be lighter and less bulky than many traditional helmets.
- A different adjustment system: Instead of grinding away foam as the head grows, we add material and use removable plates to help guide the shape.
- No bulky external straps: The straps are embedded into the helmet, so there aren’t tabs sticking out and getting in the way as the baby moves their head.
COME SEE WHERE YOUR BABY IS AT
At the end of the day, I want parents to understand where their baby’s head shape is now and where we think we can get it with good compliance.
That’s why our helmet evaluations are free. We can take a look, walk you through the measurements, and show you what your options are.
Come in and see us—we’d love to help!
